Creative Achievements

Engaged in an active art studio practice for seventeen years - Producing many fine quality artworks using a variety of art processes. Completed commissions and public art projects and sold art to clients/collectors, 1993 to present. Artwork originals and cards are currently being shown and sold in the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria Art Rental gallery and in Side Street Studio, Victoria.

Oaklands Community Park Signs Project - Created paintings, text, and digital layouts for six permanently installed interpretive park and neighbourhood signs in the Oaklands community. Collaborative art workshops and community consultation were a part of the project. Funding for the project provided by Oaklands Community Association and the City of Victoria.

Artist First Public Art Project - produced four 6x6 foot transportable vinyl murals displayed in Centennial Square, Victoria and other public locations. This project was one of six selected from a competition for grant funding from the City of Victoria. Completed 2008.

Public Mural commissions, Oaklands and Fairfield Communities  -  Worked in partnership with community centres and Victoria Emergency Social Services to paint all four sides of their emergency services containers, 20x8x8 feet in size. Funded by City of Victoria grants and ESS. Artist assisted by community volunteers. Oaklands mural completed 2006. Fairfield mural completed 2007.

Oaklands Neighbourhood Banners - Fabric banner design selected as the winning entry from approximately 100 entries in a community competition. Banners are installed on multiple street poles throughout the Oaklands Community, Victoria, BC.

Mural commissions, Saanich Adult Education Centre - In the First Nations school in Brentwood Bay, BC, painted the walls, stairwells and doors of the school interior, 2004 to present.

Illustrated Coast Salish Storybook - Produced 32 full colour ink and watercolour illustrations for stories collected from elders in the Saanich First Nations community. Project commissioned by Saanich Adult Education Centre, completed in 2007.

Book Illustration and Layout - Provided illustrations, photography and layout design for the book ÁLEṈENEC Learning from Homeland, a 170 page anthology of writings from the ÁLEṈENEC cultural educational program, hosted by the Saanich Adult Education Centre in Brentwood Bay, BC. ÁLEṈENEC students explore the traditional territories, SENĆOŦEN language and culture of the WASÁNEĆ (Saanich) people. Publication May 2008.

Island Illustrators Society group exhibits - The Garry Oak Habit (Cedar Hill Recreation Centre Gallery Cafe, January 2009), The Illustrated Garden (Butchart Gardens, Summer 2009), Illustrated Island Winter (MacPherson Playhouse, December 2009), Naughty Bits Now Showing (Community Arts Council of Greater Victoria, February 2010)

AGGV Annual Moss Street Paint-In - Showed and demonstrated my artwork to the public. Over one hundred artists line Moss Street from the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria at Fort Street to the ocean at Dallas Road. Estimated 35 000 visitors attend the event each year. July 2008, 2009, 2010.

Solo Exhibition - A solo exhibition of original paintings in the Saanich Municipal Hall Main Floor Gallery, August 11-29, 2008.

PLAY exhibit - group art exhibit with Kristi Bridgeman, Joanne Thomson and Sarah Sorensen. Cedar Hill Recreation Centre Gallery Cafe, August 2009.

Sister Sideshow - Solo art show at Perkz coffee shop, Victoria, BC. Featured artist for the month of June 2007.

Teaching Experience

Teacher, Saanich Indian School Board, Saanich Adult Education Centre - Started and developed the art program, instructed Art 10/12 curriculum to First Nations adult students, wrote and taught Studio Arts 12 courses that students take for approved credit, January 12, 2004 – present.

Children’s Art Festival Coordinator, Art Gallery of Greater Victoria
- Coordinated much of the major planning for the annual Children’s Art Festival, an outdoor art activities festival happening for one day every fall. Recruited, coordinated and guided 80 volunteers. Planned and prepared materials for ten art activities. Worked with art teachers preparing for event. Assisted with physical set up and take down of event. Public attendance estimated at 3000 people. September 2004 and 2005.

Family Sundays Event Coordinator, Art Gallery of Greater Victoria
- Planned educational art activities connected to current exhibitions and prepared art activities materials for monthly gallery event. Recruited, coordinated and supervised volunteers for each event. Set up, supervised and cleaned up the art activities. Public attendance estimated at 200 people per event.  October 2003 – November 2007.

Vancouver Island University Early Childhood Education program - (formerly called Malaspina College) maskmaking workshops for adult students, Brentwood Bay, BC, 2007.

Art Instructor for Victoria artsREACH program - Taught drawing and painting workshops in Victoria inner city schools, 2005 - 2006.
